Job Description: The Senior Virtualization Engineer will support all aspects of VMware virtualization; configuration, implementation, management of servers in a virtualized environment, and VDI implementations. The candidate also should have a foundation in Windows and network management skills. This position requires a mixture of engineering, operations, hands-on technical, and support skills. Qualified candidates should have excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills. The individual will work closely with technical leads, infrastructure, and operations teams, and other cross-department teams to evaluate business needs provide end-to-end technical solutions, and manage, operate, monitor, audit, and secure server Virtualization assets. Duties and Responsibilities: ~Once every 2-3 months support server infrastructure in a 24x7 on-call escalation capacity as part of a team rotation
~Install and configure vCenter Server
~Configure, manage, and maintain cluster servers
~Setup and configure HA, vMotion, and DRS
~Configure data centers, clusters, resource pools, VMs, and virtual switching
~Monitor the health of VMs operating in various data centers
~Manage replications and VM movements between data centers
~Manage disaster recovery of the virtualized environment using SRM
~Support VMware management tools (i.e., Aria Operations, Log Insight, etc.)
~Install, configure, and manage VDI solutions utilizing VMware Horizon
~Provide support to system administrators to resolve VDI issues and issues with Virtual servers including when required providing support in response to outages including conducting root cause analysis
~Maintain and update environmental documentation, Standard Operating Procedures, and engineering documentation
~Work closely with counterparts to ensure stable and healthy virtualization platforms
~Collaborate with the Lead to identify, assess, and present solution options for meeting the functional and technical requirements, which may include hardware and/or software
~Install, configure, and troubleshoot server systems (i.e., Windows, Linux, Appliances)
~Perform security hardening, patching, and server certificate updates
~Develop documentation for System Installation Plans and System Administration Guides
~Perform other tasks as directed by the Lead Engineers or Project Manager
~Other duties as assigned Minimum Requirements: ~BS degree and minimum of 5-7 years of experience in virtualization and infrastructure management
~Must have the ability to install and configure vCenter Server
~Must be able to work with cluster servers
~Must have experience monitoring the health of VMs operating in various data centers
~Experience with VMware Horizon View, VMware vCenter, vSphere Client and Web Client, and VMware Workstation
~Understand VMware's integration with complex storage technologies
~Experience managing VMware Horizon user profiles
~Must have extensive knowledge of multi-vendor server operating systems
~Demonstrated experience in all aspects of enterprise Windows environment operations and maintenance (O&M) and engineering
~Working knowledge using and configuring Windows Distributed File System and CIFS
~Experience with performing root cause analysis, risk identification, and risk mitigation
~Interpersonal skills, including the ability to collaborate effectively
~Demonstrated experience in a fast-tempo ITSM support environment
~Background check required and ability to obtain a Secret Clearance Preferred Qualifications ~In-depth knowledge of virtualization technologies like VMware, Hyper-V, and Azure
~Relevant certifications such as VCP (VMware Certified Professional), Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, or RHCE (Red Hat Certified Engineer)
~Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to resolve complex technical issues as they relate to fully virtualized environments
~Experience with automation tools and scripting languages like PowerShell, Python, or Ansible
~Knowledge of integrating virtualization with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud
~Understanding of networking concepts and experience with virtual networking technologies and micro segmentation
~Ability to optimize and tune virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) environments for maximum performance and efficiency
~Knowledge of security best practices and experience in securing virtualized environments
~Strong teamwork and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams
~Proficiency in creating and maintaining detailed technical documentation
~Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with high ranking stakeholders and team members
~Ability to understand and meet the needs of internal and external customers
